All the wonderful uses of freshly squeezed lemons
Lemons are among the most appreciated and used fruits in cooking and household cleaning. However, in most cases only the pulp and juice are used, while the peel is promptly discarded and thrown in the garbage.
Nothing could be more wrong: the peel is the part of the lemon richest in nutrients, it is very versatile and can be used in many different ways. Below we list all the uses of lemon peel that will make you think twice before throwing it away.
Air freshener . Cook two squeezed lemons, three sprigs of fresh rosemary and a teaspoon of vanilla in half a liter of water. Boil for a couple of minutes then cool. Pour into a spray bottle and store in the fridge. The air freshener is ready to be used.
Deodorizer for cabinets or drawers . Let the squeezed lemons dry, then place them in a cloth bag. Add some spices to taste, such as cinnamon, cloves or cardamom, and store in kitchen cabinets or bedroom drawers.
Absorbs bad odors in the fridge . Put the squeezed lemons directly in the fridge: they will be very effective in absorbing the odors that come from the food and which, more often than not, are not at all pleasant.
Multipurpose cleaner . Pour the squeezed lemons into a container and add some white vinegar. Close and let rest for two weeks. Filter the liquid and add water in equal parts. Use as a multipurpose cleaner, capable of degreasing and disinfecting.
Insect repellent . Cut the squeezed lemons and place them around the house, at insect entry points such as windows or cracks.
