When squeezing lemons, don’t make the mistake of throwing away the seeds: they are worth their weight in gold used like this
When juicing lemons, avoid discarding the seeds, as they can be very valuable if used creatively. If you’re used to throwing away lemon seeds, you may discover surprising new uses for them.
Lemons are known for their unique flavor and versatility in cooking and household tasks. Rich in vitamin C and with a natural acidity that makes them useful for digestion and to relieve bloating, lemons are widespread in the Mediterranean, but their origin dates back to Asia, from where they were imported thanks to trade.
Lemons are widely used in cooking for seasoning dishes, making sauces and even desserts, where the zest is often used. Since we use the juice, pulp and peel of lemons, why should we eliminate the seeds? Here are some ways to make the most of them.
After using the lemon, save the seeds and rinse them carefully with water at room temperature, using a strainer. Then, spread them out on a paper towel and dry them completely. Next, take some tweezers and remove the film covering them.
Take a small container, like a yogurt cup, and fill it with damp cotton wool. Place the seed on top of the cotton wool and let it sit for at least a week. After about 7 days, the seed will give way to a small sprout.
Continue to keep the cotton wool moist and create a humid environment to further encourage the growth of your little sprout until it develops roots. At this point, transplant the seed into a small pot, using a mixture of potting soil and perlite to ensure good drainage of the soil. The sprout will require constant care, such as a well-lit location, heat and protection from drafts. Make sure the soil remains constantly moist and wait for nature to take its course, eventually getting a lemon seedling that will give you delicious fruit.
Additionally, lemon seeds can be used to create a drawer and cabinet freshener. After washing, citrus seeds retain their natural scent for a long time. You can place them in a canvas bag and use them to scent drawers, closets, or even rooms like the bathroom. If you place them on radiators during the winter, they will release a pleasant lemon scent. Now you have several options to make the most of the seeds of this citrus fruit with countless qualities.
