Remove fleas from your dog without damaging the skin: 1 DIY flea shampoo

By liliaturcin5

Those of us who have a cat or dog at home know well that as soon as they start scratching desperately , it’s because they definitely have fleas . The problem is that if fleas are not removed as soon as possible, they can generate infections and make our pets suffer a lot.

If when you pet your pet you find a small brown or black insect, it is likely that it is a flea that is feeding on its blood. However, fleas can also be identified if:

  • there is a rash or lesion on the animal’s body,
  • you notice hair loss,
  • there are small black or reddish spots on the skin,
  • the animal’s gums are pale (in severe cases).

Once fleas feed on your pet’s blood, their saliva causes itching or rashes, which makes pets scratch desperately.

These insects have the ability to reproduce quickly. Females can produce 25 to 50 eggs per day, or approximately 2000 fleas in 5 to 6 months.

If not eliminated in time, they can put the animal’s health at risk, developing conditions such as bartonellosis, allergic dermatitis or even anemia.

How to prepare flea shampoo

If lately you have noticed that your pet tends to scratch more, but you cannot find any traces of fleas, the best thing to do is to act in time, that is, before the insects begin to reproduce in the animal’s hair.

You need:

  • 1 liter of warm water
  • 250 ml of vinegar
  • 250 ml of baby shampoo
  • half a spoonful of baking soda
  • a clean bottle

Pour the warm water into a container, then add the shampoo without mixing too much to avoid it making too much foam.

Then add the vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and mix to integrate them with the other ingredients. Pour everything into the bottle.

Apply the DIY flea shampoo to your pet, leave it on for 5 minutes, being very careful not to let it come into contact with its eyes and mouth.

Finally, rinse with plenty of water. Apply shampoo once a month to prevent and fight fleas.
