By liliaturcin5

Regular maintenance of your mattress and bedding is essential and prolongs their life. Dust, stains, dust mites… So many reasons to take care of your mattress and keep it clean and healthy. At night we are not very gentle with him, not even the rest of the day… Urine stains, blood or even yellow stains, we show you how to get rid of them to find a clean and pleasant mattress that promotes a peaceful sleep.

Vacuuming every now and then is far from enough to clean our mattresses. And not surprisingly, the latter become a fertile ground for dirt:   body oils, mites, sweat, stains of all kinds   and sometimes even mold caused by humidity. Let’s see how to put an end to this problem.

Cleaning the mattress

How to clean a mattress naturally and effectively?

For quick and effective cleaning we recommend using   hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate  . To do this :

  1. Pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda and ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle and add a few drops of essential oil of your choice.
  2. Spray the cleaner on the mattress and let it sit for 3 hours;
  3. Then scrub it with a towel or small brush;
  4. Allow to air dry;
  5. As for the remaining residue, just do a little vacuuming.

Actions to take for effective and methodical cleaning of the mattress

To get started, first   wash your bed sheets  . For this reason it is best to start by washing the mattress cover before moving on to the sheet and bedspread. As you put your sheets in the dryer, turn on a hot setting   to kill any bed bugs   and dust mites that have had time to infect your bedding.

Still on the topic of eliminating dust mites, feel free to add eucalyptus or clove essential oils to your laundry during the wash. If you prefer to use a spray for convenience, you can integrate the oils into it to   spray the mattress and put an end to the mites that infest the bedding.

In addition to washing, vacuuming the mattress surface is the other step that should not be overlooked. To do this, vacuum with straight and vertical movements from top to bottom. Of course,   don’t neglect the sides of the mattress.

How to deodorize the mattress?

With the right ingredients, eliminating bad odors from your mattress can be a breeze. To get rid of them, we suggest   making your own air freshener made from natural ingredients  .

  1. Take a resealable jar and pour ½ cup of baking soda and 10 drops of lavender essential oil into it.
  2. Close, shake and then poke small holes in the lid to sprinkle the baking soda on the mattress.
  3. Gently scrub the surface using a brush. This pushes the baking soda into the top fibers of the bed to work deeply   against moisture and body oils trapped in the fabric  .
  4.  Finally, give it a final vacuum to remove any odors from the cleaning product.

And the stains on the mattress?

Another reason why mattresses are among the most dirty household furniture are stains of all kinds. Furthermore  , for each type of stain, a specific method is preferred  . Also note that you may need to repeat the process depending on the depth and nature of the stain.

  • Clean a blood stain on the mattress

To remove a blood stain:

  1. Make a paste of 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide, 2 tablespoons of coarse salt and 1 more of dish detergent.
  2. Apply it to the stained area and once it has had time to dry, remove the excess product. Take a clean cloth soaked in hydrogen peroxide   and dab the remaining stain until it disappears.
  • Clean a sweat stain on the mattress
  1. Using a spray bottle filled with warm water, lightly dampen the sweat ring
  2. In another spray bottle, make a solution of 1 cup 3% peroxide, 3 tablespoons baking soda, a little dish soap, and warm water. Spray the mixture on the stained area and then   scrub gently with a toothbrush  . Continue until the stain disappears. To finish, spray a final jet of warm water on the stain, wipe with a clean, dry cloth and leave to dry.
  • Clean a urine stain on the mattress
  1. Combine   ¾ of hydrogen peroxide and 2 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate   as well as a few drops of lavender and lemon essential oil.
  2. Shake lightly to combine the ingredients, then sprinkle the solution onto the urine stain.
  3. Leave for an hour, then use a paper towel to remove excess liquid and let the area air dry.

As you can see, there are many tips for having a clean and fresh mattress. Obviously,   alongside the Sommières earth and the sodium bicarbonate, the inevitable white vinegar is also present.
