Cucumber

What is gypsum used for

Cucumbers can be grown outdoors or in greenhouses, but whatever the choice, they need fundamental nourishment such as that provided by chalk. In fact, this substance makes the soil even more suitable for growing vegetables,  neutralizes acidity and improves soil structure .

In its composition, gypsum contains substances useful for nourishing vegetables and therefore also cucumbers, such as calcium, a substance that cucumbers need in large quantities to grow and develop.

The high source of calcium contained in gypsum is therefore essential to improve the quantity and quality of the crop. Especially during fruit formation, if the calcium needed to make them lush is lacking, rot problems can occur and the crop could decline and deteriorate.

Chalk is  already naturally present in the soil,  but sometimes it is not enough to provide cucumbers with all the calcium they need to ensure magnificent growth. To fill this deficiency, you can water cucumbers and other vegetables with DIY prepared gypsum fertilizer, following a simple procedure. Here’s how.

How to prepare gypsum fertilizer

To prepare gypsum fertilizer you need a few ingredients, here they are:

  • 200 grams of gypsum;
  • 10 liters of lukewarm water.

Gypsum must be ground before use, a procedure necessary to completely dissolve the substance in water and  make it evenly distributed throughout the soil . In addition to calcium, dissolved gypsum will also provide plants with very important substances such as silicon and magnesium, essential for healthy growth.

To grind the chalk, put it in a  plastic bag with a zipper  and place it on a cutting board. With a wooden hammer or meat mallet, tap the chalk forcefully several times until it is ground to a powder.

Once you have the  chalk powder, pour it into the lukewarm water  that you have put in a container. You can do this by reducing the doses, taking into account that  you need 50 grams of chalk per 2.5 liters of warm water.

How to use cucumber fertilizer

Once the chalk powder is placed in warm water, mix the solution thoroughly and let it sit for 10 minutes. After the time,  stir again and let it sit for another ten minutes . At this point, put the liquid obtained in the watering can and irrigate the cucumber plants, making the product reach as best as possible on the ground near the plant.

Water the cucumbers with this solution once  a month , preferably  in the evening , and you will see that the harvest will be more abundant, even  doubled after just one week .

The nutrients contained in the chalk will immediately give their effectiveness and allow you to grow many other vegetables in the best possible way, always having  abundant harvests and healthy products  to bring to the table. Whether you use this fertilizer on cucumbers grown outdoors or in greenhouses, you can rid them of gray rot that prevents them from growing healthy.

If you water cucumbers correctly with chalk, you will give these plants the necessary nutrition to grow and multiply, since the  soil is better for this crop . At the same time, you should know that when planting chalk cucumbers are protected from a large number of pests, keeping them away from plants and saving them from dangerous attacks.
