The blackberry leaf buds are a healthy and delicious street food right on the side of the road.

They sit in the leaf axils of the previous year’s thick shoots and are full of vitality.
Their taste is surprisingly pleasant. If you chew on it for a longer period of time, you will notice a nutty, fresh taste that is reminiscent of coconut.

Simply nibble from the bush or sprinkle fresh over the salad. Tea infusion and the production of bud sugar are also possible.

Very little is known about the ingredients and effects of the buds, apart from gemmotherapy. However, I found a study that comes to the following conclusion: Blackberry leaf buds contain relatively high concentrations of minerals (K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Mn, and Zn) and bioactive substances with antioxidant and antibacterial properties.
The buds probably also contain concentrated plant hormones and other important ingredients that enable the plant to grow and survive.

In gemmotherapy, the buds have a stimulating effect on bone formation and a regenerating effect on lung tissue. The following areas of application are also mentioned: osteoporosis, fracture prevention in older people, arthrosis problems, breathing problems as a result of chronic bronchitis, asthma and smoking (COPD), kidney inflammation, menstrual problems.
