By Lilia

How to make homemade elderberry juice? Elderflower blooms in May and June, and the flower is a kitschy yellow-white bouquet with a pleasant aroma.

This herb has been known and used for at least 4000 years.

According to the famous Bulgarian healer Petar Dimkov, this is the most effective herb in Bulgaria, and the American Indians call it “nature’s pharmacy”.

Perhaps the most popular elderberry drink is its juice. Its flowers contain essential oils, resinous substances, glycosides, organic acids, etc.

They contain many antioxidants, vitamins and phytochemicals.

After picking elderflowers, we can make a homemade juice concentrate to dilute and flavor with various herbs and liquids.

How to collect elderflowers

We collect well-bloomed elderberry stalks in May or June, from which we make homemade useful elderberry juice.

We choose a dry and sunny day and find the cleanest possible places in nature with blooming elderflowers.

They should be away from roads and human activity. We carefully cut the stems with scissors or break them with our hands, holding the flower up so that the pollen is not lost.

We only pick flowers that have not overbloomed.

We put them carefully in a basket, and after we get them home, we carefully examine them and remove any spiders and bugs. We do not wash them with water.
